DescriptionThis is an unusual car, being one of the first 1600GT Marcos cars, and thus using the much lighter wooden chassis, so very successful in the FIA Volvo engined cars.
The car was the subject to an exceptional quality race restoration by David Gathercole Race Preparation only a few years ago.
More recently the engine has been freshened, all new safety equipment fitted (in 2006), and has just had the gearbox replaced.
The engine is a good one, fitted with the desirable 'big wing' Mexico sump, and it is producing in the region of 145 bhp, which, with its light weight, excellent torque and the legendary Marcos handling, makes this an absolutely ideal entry into HSCC Historic Roadsports racing. The car is also suitable for CSCC Swinging Sixties and Masters Best of Brtiish rounds.
If you are quick, you can have an astoundingly good all steel full race crossflow engine (legal for HRS) just put together by David Gathercole and producing in the region of 180bhp. With this option, at a fitted price of £15,995, there is no reason why the car could not then run at the front in the HRS rounds, and give the Elans a real fright.
This exceptional all steel engine is available separately, freshly rebuilt with new bearings etc. for £4,495, complete with carbs.
Summing up, a really attractive car, freshly checked over, with an option of a fabulous engine at about 65% of the price of an Elan.
