How to start racing
Whether your aim is to be the next Michael Schumacher, or you just want to race at low cost for some weekend fun, racing has so much to offer.
Racing in Britain is among some of the busiest and best organised in the world and there is something for every pocket and taste. From young hotshots in the junior single-seater categories to more mature racers having a whale of a time in cars of the 1960s and 1970s, there is racing for all.
And, contrary to popular opinion, it need not cost the earth to compete. In the lower ranks, many people are racing regularly out of their own pocket and a season of racing can start from as little as £3000. Of course, it is possible to spend a great deal more if you want to progress up the racing ladder!

This series of articles on MotorsportAds.co.uk takes you from getting your race licence, and through many of the important decisions you need to make before you actually start racing. You may have already made a decision about exactly what you want to do: if not, and you want to explore the alternatives before making a decision, we hope you find this information useful.
Our aim in these articles is to help you through some of the questions you'll need to ask:
· How do I get my race licence? · What equipment do I need? · Which championship or race series is right for me? · What type of race car? · Do I rent or buy a race car? · Do I run it myself or go to a team? · How do I improve my skills? · How do I get sponsorship? · Where can I find out more?
